Many leaders I talk to are expressing their desire to see the five fold ministries (detailed in Ephesians 4:11-14)  humming in a local church setting.
Their BIG question is this: “where have all the evangelists gone?”
The answer? They are sitting in virtually every church.
Sometimes this gifted person doesn’t even realise they are one.
They are a bit like Paul Potts and Susan Boyle who were ordinary people “discovered” during “Britains Got Talent”. If you want to have a good cry, watch and listen to Paul Potts sing here.
I think God feels the …

The original missions mandate of Jesus, as expressed in His five Great Commission announcements, was to evangelise the world. So, what’s ‘evangelism?’
To evangelise, is spread or proclaim the gospel. So what’s ‘the gospel’?
The gospel has three aspects: words, works, and effects.
Most churches are currently focussing on the works of the gospel (i.e. good works), leaving out the words.  To evangelise is to use words.  The original mandate had this in mind – that every person on the face of the earth would hear and understand the words of the gospel …

Hey Julian, what do we say when my pastor says “evangelism is not the only way to save people, or to reach people and bring them into God’s Kingdom.”
Is there another simple answer? a biblical answer?
Some thoughts on this would be awesome, as this is the main challenge I have faced over the years when evangelism is mentioned.   My pastor doesn’t think that mobilising the church to preach the gospel is necessary.  As long as people are saved and end up in his church – this is all that matters.
Thanks, Bill.

Hi everyone,
The following is an email I received from a friend overseas. He is a pastor of a church.

His real name is not Andrew.

What he writes sounds ‘right’ and ‘biblical’ and ‘spiritual’ but in actual fact, there is a powerful device of the enemy embedded in this email. Of course, there is truth in the text, and lots of it, which makes the device hard to detect.
The device in amongst the truth is stopping evangelism. Can you spot it?

Sad to say, but much of this reasoning has invaded the Church …

Hi everyone,
For those of you who are praying for our ministry, I thought I would encourage you.  Your prayers are being answered.
We had people from as far away as Tairua in the Coromandel and Auckland attend.
There was a heavy sense of the presence of God in the conference from time to time.
One person wrote on their evaluation form “An incredible day. Totally inspiring and encouraging!”
Several people has been to other DNA change conferences and they commented that this one was the best yet. Firstly, the format is different. There is …

Hi everyone,
Most Christians feel they are safe from the attacks of the enemy, right? We have the mind of Christ, right? The Word? The Holy Spirit?
Yet, research shows our minds are VERY vulnerable to attack,  especially when it comes to evangelism and the Great Commission.  Do the test below and find out just how principalities and powers and infiltrated your mind without you knowing. You’ll be amazed how he’s done it!

My name is Graeme and recently I attended a very stimulating DNA conference that Julian was speaking at in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Last Sunday afternoon I was at a loose end.  My wife had gone to hear  the Sunset Symphony, so I decided to go to the bus terminal to hand out a few www.biblein11.com cards. My home is near this terminal.
When I got to the terminal, I went up to an old car in which a young guy and his wife were sitting in.   I gave out a card and …

I am a Presbtyterian minister in New Zealand who has learnt to go door to door giving the gospel like the Apostles in Acts 5:40-43.
Last week it was a real buzz going with Colin, one of my parishioners.

Colin recently attended the DNA change conference in our town, so he was all fired up and keen to put into action his new love for Jesus and the Great Commission.

It was his first time going out with me. We would have knocked on 12 doors before we met Glenda who is in her …

Last Friday afternoon, I was traveling from Auckland to Hamilton, a two hour drive.
At Papakura,  it began to rain heavily and I noticed a man on the side of the road hitchhiking.
I figured that if I picked him up it would save him getting soaked, so I did.  He was a ex-gang member, 49.  As it turned out, he had three children to three different woman, and didn’t have a relationship with any – either his children or their mothers. He had no money, no possessions, and a $1000 overdraft.
All he …

Hi everyone,
Many of you know I spent most of January in America, and one of our board members, Eleanor Goodall, came with me. Her son lives in Florida (Larry), which is only few hours from Charleston.  We were being hosted by a lovely couple in Charleston, Jon and Valerie Barrow.
We saw the Lord’s hand of blessing in the USA, particularly among black pastors and leaders. Below are three videos of leaders (two of them are civic, and one church) in Charleston.
Mark Andrews, Attorney
Dr Dallas Wilson, Episcopal Priest
John Stratton, businessman
On the …

I went to visit my aged Mum (88) in Whangarei for Christmas.
On the way there, just south of Wellsford, I rounded a bend and there in front of me was a man coming out from the deep bush which lined the road.  As soon as his feet hit the road, his thumb went out. It was 7 am.
After a positive experience picking up a hitch hiker a few days ago, I immediately pulled over for this man too.  Let’s call him Mike.
Wow! What an interesting story he had to tell!
He …

The other day I was travelling back from Whangarei, and just out of Wellsford, on the open road, was a hitchhiker.
He was a Maori, mid 30′s, unshaven, rough looking, pony tailed, with a small bag (not like the guy in the picture at left!).
As soon as I saw him I started the classic ‘would I, won’t I’ dialogue in my head. I looked over at my passengers seat and it was covered with bits and pieces. As I drove passed him I decided it was ‘No’.
But driving away from him, …

This was a dream I had today, the 20th December, 2011.
It was about 6:30am. I dreamt I’d just bought some evangelism resources and with them was a small pamphlet.
The pamphlet told me the truth about the state of evangelism in New Zealand.
As I began reading it I became more and more discouraged.
I read that many years ago there were many youth workers who did evangelism but as time went on, there were fewer and fewer.
Eventually only one young person was out there evangelising.
I also read that the churches in my …

Every church wants to be effective in evangelism, yet very few churches actually have a strategy for it.

As the saying goes ‘if we fail to plan, we plan to fail’.
So, to avoid failing with evangelism, we need to formulate a specific strategy.
The dictionary defines the word ‘strategy’ like this:
“a plan of action designed to achieve a long-term or overall aim”
So, what’s the overall aim of your church in evangelism? What’s your plan to get there?
What does the Bible say we must include? Exclude? Where does one start? What are the …
